  1. Operating Theatre Nurse II (REGISTERED NURSE II)Job Group ‘J’

Requirements for Appointment

  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery
  • Registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya; and
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution
  • Diploma in the Kenya registered community Health nursing from a recognised institution.
  • Post basic diploma/Higher diploma in peri operative nursing.
  • Registration certificate issued by the nursing council of Kenya

 Duties and Responsibility

  • Assessing patient prior to surgery and alleviating their concerns (nursing care plan)
  • Gathering all supplies needed for the operation
  • Assuming responsibility of keeping the operating room sterilized.
  • Assist surgeon during operations and keep the operating room sterile at all times
  • Be a critical thinker, fast to act in an emergency.
  • Position and prepare patient on the operating table
  • Pass medical instruments or other objects to the surgeons.
  • Assist in compilation of the theatre register.
  • To act as a scrubbed or circulating nurse during surgical procedures
  • Regular updating of surgeon preference 

2. Critical care Nursing (REGISTERED NURSE II) Job Group ’J’

  • Higher diploma in critical care Nursing
  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery from a recognised institution.
  • Registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya; and
  • Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution

 Special Skills

  • Certificate in advance cardiac life support
  • They need to possess physical mental and emotional stamina to work with seriously ill patient and the loved ones (same as for operating theatre nurse)

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate health care services for patients from broad range of health conditions
  • They provide continuous, high level care for critically ill patients and their families
  • Monitoring life support equipment.
  • Documentation of all patient interactions to give the physicians an accurate picture of the patient
  • Asses’ patient and use high tech equipment.
  • Ability to calculate medication doses and titrate potent medication.
  • Be able to insert and care for venous and arterial infusion.
  • Provide care for dying patient and provide education and support to the family members faced with critical decisions.
  • Member of emergency response team in the hospital. 

 3. Renal Nurse (REGISTERED NURSE II) – Job Group ‘J’

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prime dialyzers and blood lines
  • Records patients’ medical information and vital signs
  • Readies dialysis equipment oversees the dialyses treatment from start to finish.
  • Cannulates accesses.
  • Demonstrate the ability to removed femoral sheath and administer medication include thrombolytic.
  • Clean and dresses permanent and temporary catheters
  • Monitors patient adjust and puts specialized equipment used on patients and interprets and records information

  • Identifies irregular dialysis reactions and notifies appropriate medical team members

4. Theatre/Anaesthetic Nurse (REGISTERED NURSE II) – Job Group ‘J’

  • Higher Diploma in Anaesthetic Nursing
  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery from a recognised institution.

  • Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya; and

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Initiates excellent anaesthetic nursing care to patients undergoing surgery.
  • Coordinates with attending surgeon in implementation anaesthesia care to surgical patients.
  • Check available supplies of anaesthesia medications.
  • Instructs patient and their families on surgical and anaesthetic procedures
  • Obtain consent from patient and their families for anaesthesia and surgery.
  • Select anaesthetic technique general local or regional or intravenous therapy,
  • Select anaesthetic technique general local or reginal on intravenous therapy
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care plans.
  • Monitor and access and changes anaesthetic patients during surgery procedure
  • Ensure compliance of hospital procedure and guidelines in anaesthetic nursing care deliveries

6. Cardiac Perfusionist Nurse (REGISTERED NURSE II) job group ’J’

  • Higher diploma in cardiac care Nursing
  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Kenya Registered Nursing, Kenya Registered Midwifery from a recognised institution.
  • Registration certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya; and should possess a Certificate in Cardiac Perfusion from an accredited Institution and a valid certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • with at least two-year relevant experience.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with ACLS, lntra-aortic balloon pump, Biomedicus pump and Auto transfusion trainings

Responsibilities

  • The Cardiac Perfusionist Nurse will work under the direction of surgeons and anesthetists, to provide short term cardiopulmonary support during open heart procedures, long term support via centrifugal ventricular pumps on cardiac or pulmonary compromised patients, on adult and/or pediatric.
  • operates, monitor and maintain the heart/lung machine and extracorporeal Units
  • Assist in the development of perfusion department policies and procedures
  • Assists with the proper maintenance of records, procedure manuals and quality control measures
  • Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies used in the department.
  • Assists as necessary in coordinating the activities of the perfusion department.
