The 6th Annual Devolution Conference Kicks-off in Kirinyaga County

Since the start of devolved governance, six years ago, joint efforts have been made to ensure that devolution is a success. Both the National Government and the 47 County Governments have taken momentous steps to implement devolution and each level of government supported sectors with fully devolved functions with requisite legislation, systems and structures to make it work. In sequence, the public has been frequently updated, sensitized and educated on citizen participation, the developments made and achievements reached so far. Likewise, they have been educated on how to participate in building the nation.

County Governments have put in place mechanisms to strengthen and deepen devolution in sub counties, wards and decentralized entities in order to expand public engagement in priority setting, decision-making and governance.

This Conference builds up from the last year’s summit and allows the Government and its key stakeholders to discuss what they have been able to deliver, the transformation over the last one year and to measure the progress made in the Big Four Sectors.

H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the conference today. The Governor of Mombasa, H.E. Hassan Ali Joho was among the several governors who are attending the conference, much to the delight of Kenyans who cheered him and jostled to either talk to him, see him, shake his hand or take a selfie with him! Thus, proving his ever shining national popularity!

Over 6,000 delegates are expected to attend the event, whose theme is: “Deliver. Transform. Measure.” With a clarion call of “Remaining Accountable.”

Main areas of focus will be based on the Big Four Agenda and mainly:

  • Trade and Manufacturing
  • Affordable housing
  • Agriculture
  • Health
  • Water & Sanitation
